EVENT INFORMATION
Every year, the South Waikato comes alive with the energy, laughter, and friendly rivalry that only the Super Sports Weekend can bring. It’s more than just a sporting event, it’s a celebration of our people, our pride, and our shared love of sport.

Held annually in February, the South Waikato Super Sports Weekend is a weekend long challenge like no other. Teams of two battle it out across 15–20 different sporting events, ranging from sprints and duathlons to bowls, archery, rowing, golf, and even skating. You’ll see people racing one minute and laughing the next, it’s fast-paced, unpredictable, and full of fun.
But behind all the competition is a bigger purpose. The event raises funds to help South Waikato athletes represent New Zealand on the international stage. Every entry fee, every sponsorship, and every volunteer hour helps support our local sportspeople to follow their dreams and showcase South Waikato pride across the world.

From first-timers giving it a go to returning champions defending their title, the South Waikato Super Sports Weekend brings everyone together. It’s an event built on community spirit, where the crowd cheers for every finish and where teamwork and encouragement matter just as much as speed or skill. Whether you’re competing, cheering, or just showing up to support, you’re helping keep a proud South Waikato tradition alive.

The next South Waikato Super Sports Weekend will be held on the 20,21 and 22 February 2026. Come be part of the action, the laughter, and the legacy, and see why this weekend is one of the most loved events in our community.

The Why
The South Waikato Super Sports Trust began with a simple goal, to help local athletes reach their dreams. More than 39 years ago, a group of local businesspeople came together to raise funds so that two South Waikato athletes could compete at the Olympics. What started as a small act of community support quickly grew into something much bigger.
Here’s where you’ll find everything you need to know about the event, from the full weekend programme and locations to what you’ll need to bring, how to prepare, and how to register your team. Whether you’re training hard for glory or just in it for the fun, The Weekend is your chance to test your skills, cheer on your mates, and be part of one of the most iconic community events in our district.
At the heart of the South Waikato Super Sports Trust is a simple mission: to support our community’s top athletes as they represent New Zealand on the world stage. If you live in the South Waikato District and have been selected to represent New Zealand in your sport, you’re eligible to apply for financial assistance through the Trust.
